This is a very important scientific finding seeing as the rates of childhood obesity are increasing at a rapid rate in the United States and Europe. A diet that works will be one that can reduce the very nasty inflammatory fat but sadly this is not what the commercial TV diets are doing. It is essential that we look to science for real weight loss and avoid the name brand diets.

A recent study raised some eyebrows as doctors revealed that the earlier that a person becomes overweight the more damage that the heart endures. It was once believed that the heart was affected equally by obesity at any time in the life but this is not the case, the earlier in which a person becomes overweight the more damage that is done to the heart. We have more overweight children than at any other time in the West, our children are predicted to live much shorter life spans than their parents; this dilemma is all because of inflammatory fat. This very dangerous fat is costing us our cardiovascular health. A diet that works is desperately needed by millions.

A team led by NIH’s Dr. Jared Reis studied more than 3,200 young adults, ages 18 to 30, which weren’t obese at the start of the study. The subjects were followed over a 25-year period to see if and when they became obese and for how long. Heart scans looked for calcium deposits in their coronary arteries, an early warning sign of heart disease. These calcifications can arise long before symptoms are noticed—a condition called silent heart disease.

The scientists calculated that each year a young adult is obese raises that person’s risk of developing silent heart disease by 2-4%
